Andrea Messina
Executive Vice President & Chief Development Officer
As Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer, Andrea oversees all areas of the Humane Rescue Alliance that provide direct care to animals, leading lifesaving teams that care for animals from their arrival at HRA to adoption and beyond. She leads our community programs to keep animals in their homes with their families. She oversees HRA’s development department, managing annual fundraising, online giving, grants, corporate philanthropy, and events. And she oversees organizational communications to share the work of HRA externally, including throughout the animal welfare industry.
Prior to joining HRA, Andrea most recently served as Chief Development Officer at Bread for the City, where she managed annual fundraising and secured transformative six and seven figure gifts from private foundations, federal and local government, corporations, and individuals. She also led a $33M capital campaign for the organization.
Previously, Andrea held a variety of fundraising and communications roles at not for profits and worked in Accenture’s management consulting practice leading companies through complex transformations and organizational change initiatives. She has deep experience in development, communications, and change management across the social and private sectors.
Andrea received her MBA from Georgetown University, a BA in Psychology from the Catholic University of America, and is a graduate of Accomplishment Coaching Coaches’ Training Program, having led more than 300 hours of professional leadership coaching.
Andrea lives in the DC area with her husband, daughter, two bonus sons, and two dogs. She is passionate about animals, art, and yoga. She recently earned her 500-hour credential as a yoga instructor.
