How to Adopt

Adoptions at HRA

Our adoption center located at 71 Oglethorpe St. NW is open for in-person adoption visits Tuesday through Sunday 12 - 7 p.m. - no appointments needed!

Virtual adoptions will continue for animals in foster homes. From the comfort of your home you can select an animal, set up a virtual meet and greet, and even conduct an adoption counseling session.

STEP 1: MEET YOUR MATCH!

Find an animal you are interested in by searching our online database at humanerescuealliance.org/adopt. Adoptable animals are viewable online, in real time.

STEP 2: LEARN MORE & MEET THE ANIMAL

ANIMALS AT OUR ADOPTION CENTER
Come to 71 Oglethorpe St NW for an in-person meet and greet Tuesday through Sunday 12 - 7 p.m. Adoptions are served on a first-come, first-served process – we do not place animals on hold. Be sure to bring a leash for your new dog or a carrier for your new cat or small animal. Most animals are ready to go home with you right after you meet them!

ANIMALS IN FOSTER HOMES
Using the contact information located in the animal’s online bio, email the foster parent directly for more information about the animal and to set up an opportunity to meet the animal virtually.

STEP 3: SCHEDULE YOUR COUNSELING SESSION

ANIMALS AT OUR ADOPTION CENTER
For animals in our adoption center ready to go home counseling will be completed immediately following your meet and greet. Please be prepared to stay for counseling and take your animal home the same day!

ANIMALS IN FOSTER HOMES
After you meet an animal virtually or in person, HRA staff and volunteers will help you schedule your remote counseling session and complete an adoption inquiry. Please note: animals are not placed on hold until a counseling session is scheduled and confirmed.

STEP 4: COMPLETE COUNSELING

During the counseling session, an HRA staff member will review important background about the animal–including all medical and behavioral information we have on record. This is an opportunity for you to ask questions and discuss considerations to have when welcoming your newest family member into your home.

Animals in foster homes: All adoption counseling for animals in foster homes will occur virtually, either by phone or video call. We ask that you be prepared to bring home your pet within 24-48 hours of your virtual counseling session.

STEP 5: ARRANGE PICKUP & TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HOME!

ANIMALS AT OUR ADOPTION CENTER

ANIMALS IN FOSTER HOMES
