HRA's disaster response team provides ongoing support following Hurricane Sally

The Humane Rescue Alliance’s disaster response team is continuing its critical support of pets and residents in Escambia County, Florida. More than 300,000 are still without power after Hurricane Sally unleashed torrential rainfall causing devastating flooding in many communities.

While going door to door checking on residents in impacted communities and distributing pet food yesterday, the team met Pixie, a beloved 2-year-old cat, and her family. After getting loose during the storm, Pixie suffered a deep laceration to her right front arm. With her family unable to get Pixie to a veterinary clinic for urgent medical care because of damage to both their home and car, HRA’s team stepped in to help. Pixie receiving the medical care she needed provided the family with some much-needed peace of mind during what has been a devastating week.

HRA continues to work alongside Escambia County animal control officers and the Humane Society of the United States to provide disaster relief in the county.

HRA is poised for ongoing disaster relief and is on standby to provide support to our transport partners in the region. We are also closely monitoring Tropical Storm Beta and Wilfred and will provide more information as the situation develops.
