Since the program's launch in 2018, the Humane Rescue Alliance’s (HRA) Pet Pantry has distributed more than 40,000 pounds of dog and cat food to Washington, DC residents. Supported by public donations, contributions from the community have been vital to the Pet Pantry’s continued success.
We are also thankful to have the support of companies like Chewy, who earlier this year donated an incredible 20,000 pounds of pet food and supplies to the Humane Rescue Alliance. Today, we were thrilled to be able to distribute Chewy’s donation to seven area rescues and shelter organizations from Maryland and Virginia, with the goal of helping to stock their pet pantries and help provide for animals in their care.
“HRA has a long history of providing support to other animal welfare organizations through our robust transport and mentorship programs, sharing of resources, and increased collaboration with regional partners,” said Katie Rotramel, HRA’s Director of Community Programs. “Today, with the support of Chewy, we were able to build upon existing efforts and make critical resources available to pet owners in DC and neighboring communities.”
The Pet Pantry is supported by public donations of pet food. If you're interested in donating, pet food can be dropped off at our 71 Oglethopre Street NW location. Food can also be shipped to the Humane Rescue Alliance directly via our Amazon Wishlist.
