Combating animal cruelty is a job we take very seriously. Humane Rescue Alliance law enforcement officers are available day or night to help any animal in need. Now, through a joint effort between HRA’s foster and humane law enforcement departments, our robust and generous network of fosters will make it possible for us to care for more animals in need, as part of the Humane Heroes program.
Humane Heroes is an opportunity for our fosters to support HRA’s humane law enforcement department by welcoming abused and neglected animals into their home for 30 days. The purpose of the program is to place animals currently on humane hold in a home environment to reduce stress and to gather information about the animal’s behavior in a home environment.
Humane hold is when an animal has been taken into the custody of humane law enforcement because of suspected abuse or neglect. While the animal is in the custody of humane law enforcement, the case is investigated to determine whether criminal charges will be filed.
To become a Humane Hero you will need to apply and attend HRA's foster orientation. Orientations run on a monthly basis, with limited space, and we are most in need of foster families able to host dogs weighing more than 40 pounds, with no breed restrictions.
