President Harry Truman famously said: “If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.” It appears many in Congress have taken President Truman at his word! Meet the Dogs and Cats of Congress, a photo essay from the Humane Rescue Alliance and WTOP.com.
HRA photographers began taking and receiving photos from offices on the Hill over the summer, and today WTOP.com has launched the first installment of the feature.
“We are thrilled to partner with WTOP to celebrate the Dogs and Cats of Congress,” said David Smith, Chief Communications Officer for HRA. “It is gratifying and heartwarming to all of us to see our nation’s leaders recognize the joy of pet ownership. We look forward to featuring more members of Congress in future additions of this photo essay and invite participation from any congressional offices not currently featured.”
WTOP hosts HRA’s “Pet of the Week” each Monday and has been an avid supporter of animal welfare.
“WTOP has been a proud partner of the Humane Rescue Alliance for years. We love doing what we can to help find pets their forever homes,” said Julia Ziegler, News Director, WTOP.com. “We are always enthusiastic to support worthwhile causes and the Humane Rescue Alliance does great work for our community. We hope our listeners and readers enjoy taking a break from their busy days to see members of Congress with their furry friends.”
The Dogs and Cats of Congress feature will be updated periodically to include additional images from members of Congress.
