A Humane Rescue Alliance investigation into suspected animal cruelty in northwest DC led to the rescue of a goldendoodle-type dog today under a search and seizure warrant obtained by HRA Humane Law Enforcement officers.
The investigation began when multiple members of the public reported to HRA that a man was allegedly physically abusing his dog by striking the animal on his head with the plastic handle of a retractable dog leash multiple times. HRA officers named the dog Ralphie.
“I’m relieved Ralphie is in the hands of our loving staff receiving the care he deserves. We will continue to investigate this case and encourage anyone with information about it to contact us,” said Chris Schindler, vice president of field services at the Humane Rescue Alliance.
The case remains under investigation. Ralphie is in the care of HRA, where he will be examined by a veterinarian and receive any necessary medical and behavioral treatment.
