A Humane Rescue Alliance investigation into suspected animal cruelty in NE DC led to the rescue of a dog who is suspected of being abused yesterday under a search and seizure warrant obtained by HRA Humane Law Enforcement officers.
The investigation began when a member of the public reported the animal, who rescuers named Cooper, was being kept outside without adequate shelter. Over the course of the investigation, HLE officers with HRA obtained additional information from multiple concerned citizens regarding allegations of physical abuse against Cooper.
Cooper is now in the care of HRA, where he is receiving necessary medical attention.
“I’m relieved our officers were able to rescue Cooper from the hostile environment he suffered in for too long and that he is in the hands of our loving staff getting the care and affection he deserves,” said Chris Schindler, vice president of field services at the Humane Rescue Alliance. “We are grateful to those in our community who reported this abuse. We cannot do this work without you. To report animal cruelty or neglect, please call 202-723-5730 option 3.”
The suspect was arrested at the time of the search warrant execution for possessing an illegal firearm. The animal cruelty case remains under investigation.
