Deborah Chandler of Washington, DC, was arrested this morning on a warrant obtained by the Humane Rescue Alliance and charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty.
On Feb. 18, HRA Humane Law Enforcement Officers executed a search warrant after an investigation initiated by an anonymous caller. The caller requested a welfare check on dogs living in a NW home after never observing them outside. HRA’s investigation determined the dogs were left alone in the home for approximately four days.
Upon entering the residence, Officers found seven small, mixed breed dogs in extremely unsanitary conditions. There was a significant accumulation of animal waste throughout the house, providing inadequate space for the dogs to live free of their own feces. There was no food or water present and no running water.
“Your tips help make it possible for us to rescue animals from cruelty, neglect, and abuse,” said Chris Schindler, Vice President of Field Services for HRA. “Without you, we couldn’t do this work.”
The dogs will be in the care of HRA until the case is resolved.
