18-Year-Old Dog Finds New Home

Julep, an 18-year-old hound/pit bull mix, was surrendered to the Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA) last month after her owner passed away. As one of the oldest dogs we have had in our care, word that she was available for adoption travelled fast. She was featured in several news articles and her story shared more than 4,000 times on Facebook.

Wayne, who lost his 11-year-old pit bull in December, saw Julep's story and arrived at HRA's Oglethorpe Street adoption center as soon as the doors opened, to meet her.

To prevent any "rash decisions," Wayne originally rode his motorcyle to meet Julep. He wanted the excuse to be able to think about it. Although, as soon as he met the sweet senior pup and filled out the paperwork, Wayne said he couldn't wait any longer.

"I'm going to get my car," he said, and arrived shortly after to make it official and take Julep home.

When asked if he had any second thoughts about the adoption, Wayne said, "I'm more sure now than I was before."

"I know she's not going to be around for very long, but that's okay. She deserves to live out the rest of her life in a loving home with somebody who's going to pamper her and make sure that she enjoys the last bit of life she has," Juleps' new owner said.
