When a good Samaritan found three-month-old Sushi, she was struggling to breathe, panting through nearly-blue lips. She was lying on the side of the road, unable to move. She needed help. Luckily for Sushi, she was brought to the Humane Rescue Alliance.

Last month, Humane Rescue Alliance veterinarian, Dr. Jackie Hathaway, was on the ground in Puerto Rico supporting the second round of Spayathon for Puerto Rico , in partnership with The Humane Society of the United States. Extreme weather and a surge of animals has recently left countless animals in need across the country. Last week, HRA took in 26 animals ahead of Hurricane Florence, and today 22 more dogs arrived from the Louisiana SPCA.
The dogs traveled 1,000 miles as part of HRA's Shelter Animal Relief Effort (ShARE). ShARE brings together animal welfare organizations to give every adoptable animal the opportunity to be placed in a loving, permanent home.
