The Humane Rescue Alliance is involved in its own special program with inmates still behind bars. Through a unique partnership with Patuxent Institution in Jessup, Maryland, Behavior & Training staff are working with carefully selected inmates to teach shelter dogs basic obedience skills. This win-win program gives inmates an opportunity to have a positive impact that reaches beyond prison bars by providing foster care and basic obedience instruction to homeless dogs, thus making them more adoptable. It also enhances the inmates’ social and vocational skills, which they can put to use upon release.
