Laura was born and raised in Washington, DC, and remembers bringing injured wildlife and the occasional stray dog to WHS with her parents. Laura left DC in 1996, starting her career in animal welfare at the MSPCA in Boston, with the thought she might train search and rescue dogs one day. Bit by the shelter bug almost immediately, she has spent 20+ years in animal welfare and sheltering, across the country, in Boston, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and cities in between. She returned to her hometown in 2018 and brings two decades of shelter and veterinary medicine operations to her role with HRA. In her spare time, Laura is a self-professed TNR enthusiast, reads shelter medicine studies for fun, and keeps her door open to various chihuahua and small dog mixes, always ready for a new foster.
