Katie Rotramel, always an animal lover since her earliest childhood days in Philadelphia, joined HRA in 2018 as the Director of Community Programs, where she oversees the Community Cat programs and HOPE Program. She loves that sweet spot of working with both people and animals, understanding how one will always help the other and that both are instrumental to having healthy thriving communities. In addition, she loves working in her adopted home of DC and being a part of helping improve the lives of residents and their animals here.Though she has worn many hats over the years, Katie has almost twenty years of managing programs, events, and people. After completing her service in the Peace Corps, Nicaragua, where she was an Environmental Education Volunteer, she moved to DC in early 2005. From running a boutique catering company focused on sourcing local ingredients, to spending eight years in nonprofits and US government managing international development projects, she’s had the chance to learn many valuable skills. Katie literally cannot remember a time in her life without multiple pets in it, and has always felt that having pets is one of the most enriching things in life one can do for themselves. In addition to spending time with her menagerie of animals at home (including her dog Chia born at and adopted from HRA), Katie loves exploring the DC area's green spaces for hikes, trying new restaurants (she's a foodie at heart), reading contemporary fiction, and finding new microbreweries in the region.
