David M. Smith joined the Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA) in April 2016. David has an extensive background in public relations, brand development, advocacy, and issues management, largely in the LGBT community.Before joining HRA, David was vice president for programs at the Human Rights Campaign, where he led the teams responsible for enacting several pieces of significant legislation affecting that community. Earlier in his career David also worked with the organization’s, then president, to launch HRC’s iconic equal sign logo. In addition to advancing his career in the LGBT advocacy community, he has also served as communications director for Senator Edward M. Kennedy.David recently worked with the Humane Rescue Alliance’s leadership team to introduce the organization’s new name and brand in the nation’s capital and across the country.David, originally from Los Angeles, CA, lives with his husband Javier Miranda in Washington, D.C. They, along with their cat K2, are avid Washington Nationals fans and frequently visit Javier’s native home in Spain.
