HRA Helps People and Animals Impacted by Harvey and Irma

Like you, we are heartbroken by the devastation caused by the recent hurricanes in Texas and Florida. We know a lot of you are wondering how the Humane Rescue Alliance is helping animals in need, and wanted to let you know what we’ve been doing to assist in the relief efforts:

  • HRA sent a five-person team to Dallas to assist the ASPCA's Field Investigations and Response team in the effort to help animals displaced by Hurricane Harvey. In addition to caring for more than 150 animals, the HRA team helped build kennels, exercise pens, and quarantine areas to prep for the arrival of even more animals in need.

  • HRA’s adoption centers have taken in more than 70 animals from across the country who were living in shelters in areas where space was needed to care for animals displaced by or in potential danger from the storms. We were able to clear space for those animals and find homes for more than 160 animals thanks to the incredible generosity of HRA board member Erica Scherzer and her husband, Washington Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer, who covered adoption fees for all animals August 31-September 3.

  • We are prepared to send staff to other hurricane impacted zones to help out the same way we did in Texas, should the need arise.

We have been so touched by the outpouring of concern and generosity HRA supporters have shown for the animals and their families affected by these devastating storms. We will continue to help in any way we can, and very much appreciate your support as we do so.
